Gaucin, is a beautiful white mountain village, part of the Serranía de Ronda. The Hotel Rural La Fructuosa is in the centre of this lovely village, offering a calm, cozy atmosphere and spectacular views, from each of the five large and comfortable rooms and its terraces, of the Genal Valley and extending to Gibraltar and Morocco.

An ancient wine press has been preserved, and is now an original setting for the breakfast room. Breakfast also may be served while enjoying the breathtaking view from the ground floor terrace.


La Fructuosa also offers the possibility of lodging in La Terraza or Vistasur rental property, two traditional two bedroom rustic style houses with the same spectacular views. La Terraza includes also a refreshing small plunge pool. Both houses are available for a one week stay or more.

Description

La Fructuosa is an ancient village house in the center of one of the most beautiful and quietest villages in the Serranía de Ronda. Gaucín is known as the balcony of the Serranía: The town offers spectacular views over the valleys of the Genal and Guadiaro rivers and as far as Gibraltar and Africa.

At the turn of the century the house had already acquired a reputation as the inn named Pensión La Española. Continuing the tradition, the current owners, Jesús and Luis, have restored the house with a in-depth but delicate decoration project. The house has become a convivial and comfortable village Hotel.

The five large rooms are situated in the upper level of the house. You can enjoy the view over the Strait of Gibraltar from any of the rooms or from the open terrace at the top of the house.

The ground floor, an ancient wine press, served for many years to provide with wine to the owner family and neighbours. The press has been preserved, and it is now an original frame for the restaurant inner room. The savourous dishes can be also tasted while while enjoying the breathtaking view at the terrace.

Casa Terraza





La Casa de la Terraza, a pretty village house located in front of La Fructuosa, has been completely restored and is ready for rental for periods of a week or more. Its major attraction is the large terrace-patio, more than 90 square meters, with its setting facing south and from which you can enjoy many hours of sunshine and some of the best views from Gaucín. The terrace looks out upon the Genal Valley and the views extend to Gibraltar and North Africa, silhouetted on the horizon. The terrace has all the furniture necessary to enjoy your meals in the open air or to relax and sunbathe in a hammock. There is even a swing set with rings for the little ones. Finally, there is a small swimming pool (2 x 2 meters and one meter deep9 that will let you refresh yourself during those times of real Andalusian heat.

The interior of the house, divided into two floors of 60 square meters each, is decorated in the typical colours of this region and has furniture that is a mixture of antique and modern. On the second floor there is a large living room with open wooden beams in the ceiling that add a special attraction. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds, each bedroom has a balcony. In this floor there is as well, a spacious and light-filled bathroom with bathtub. On the first floor, which open onto the street, there is a charming living room / dining room with a wood-burning stove. The kitchen is completely equipped, and there is a patio, ideal for mid-day luncheons in the open air.

The house has at your disposal: a swimming pool with its own filtering system, TV, CD music player, dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster, blender, and a woo-burning stove.

Casa Vistasur

Casa Vistasur, is a pretty village house in the center of Gaucin, recently restored. Located in the same street as La Fructuosa it is, as the Hotel, oriented southwards and enjoys of the spectacular views that have made Gaucin become famous.

The house is divided in two floors and it is fully-equipped, it is has been nicely decorated with lively, colorful tones. The living room is situated in the first floor; it is equipped with a wood-burning stove that will provide an intimate atmosphere during the winter evenings. The bathroom and kitchen are also located in the first floor. The kitchen window opens on the valleys, Gibraltar and Africa. It is the ideal place for breakfast and meals around the traditional round table.

The second floor contains two bedrooms with double-bed and wardrobes, a third bedroom with a single-bed, a full service bathroom and a lovely fully-furnished terraza. This terraza becomes the preferred living space as the guest can have a sunbath while enjoying the views.

The house has at your disposal: microwave oven, toaster, coffee-maker, TV, bed and bath linen and even wood for the wood-burning stove in the first day during winter stays.

The restaurant is opened every Friday and Saturday evenings

Terracotta floors, white-painted walls and the well-preserved wine press system define the cozy-style of the restaurant. The dining-room extends naturally into the patio where you can enjoy the pergola and the views over Africa and Gibraltar.

It is a cuisine with a strong mediterranean accent, featuring local products like the iberic pork, olive oil and sweet wines. The result is true spanish and andalucian dishes with a delicate touch of imagination and creativity.

The menu follows the rhythm of the seasons proposing specialities like: Fresh goat cheese grilled with local honey, Fresh tuna fish with oignon, fresh tomato and mint, Lamb stew with cinamon and cous-cous or Homemade "turrón" ( almond ) ice-cream.

Periodically, the restaurant is used to exhibit the work of local artists.

Rooms / Rates

Colours, furniture, decoration... each of the five room in La Fructuosa has its own style. All of them are spacious and comfortable, with private bath in each room, jacuzzi in four of them and a large shower in the last one. The name of each of the rooms is related with the local culture or the history of the house: Doña Concha, Pensión, Albero, Almagra y Soberao. All of the rooms enjoy the spectacular views that have made Gaucín famous. From their windows it is possible to see at the same time two continents, three countries, the Mediterranean sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Each of the rooms is equipped with a TV set with both Spanish and international channels. Central heating is also installed in each of the rooms.

Wireless internet connection is available everywhere in the hotel: rooms, restaurant and terraces. Laptops can be borrowed by guests with no extra charge.

For breakfast, served in the restaurant, we propose, together with coffee or tea: cereals, Gaucín's bread, olive oil, butter, jams and local sweets, fresh fruit, fresh cheese, youghourts and fruit juice.

Area Activities

Gaucín is in a privileged situation within the Serranía de Ronda: due to its proximity to both the most interesting white villages and also to the best well-known resorts on the coast.

Walk through Gaucín and discover its Castillo del Águila, the church of San Sebastián and its typical andalucian white streets.

In less than an hour by car, you can also visit many of the other White Villages like Algatocín, Benadalid, Benalauría and its most interesting Ethnographic Museum, Benarraba, Atajate, Benaoján, Casares, Jimena de la Frontera, Cortes de la Frontera...

Only 42 kms away from Gaucín, you will find the city of Ronda. An absolutely must-do visit with its very impresive Tajo, palaces and the oldest bullring of the country.

The finest coastal resorts are at aproximately the same distance: Estepona (46km) and Marbella (66km) both extremely lively and with excellent beaches.

We strongly recommend you one of the most beautiful beaches of Andalucia, the Bolonia beach, 1h20 min from Gaucín, it constitutes a very impressive dune area. At the same time you can profit to visit the roman ruins of Baleo Claudia.

Other one-day journey possibilities are the monumental city of Antequera, the crossing of the Strait to Tánger (Maroco) at only three hours from Gaucín ( including the ferry ) or Seville at 2h15 by car. You can also visit any of the protected Natural Reservations in the region ( all of them less than two hours from the hotel ): Sierra de las Nieves, Grazalema, Los Alcornocales, and the Torcal de Antequera. This region is specially rich from an ornitologist point of view; besides being a region naturally rich with bird species, it is also a turn point in the migratory paths between Europe and Africa.


Nature can be discovered by foot through any of the many traced paths, or, if you prefere, on horse.

Other activities can include walking through the local forests, exploring the Pileta cove to admire the prehistoric paintings or swimming in the Genal river.

Finally, do not forget to pay a visit to the local art shops.

After all this activity you will certainly enjoy stopping by any of the many excellent restaurants for which the region is well known.
